I wonder that there are people in the States with the name "Hagen". Where I live Hagen is one of the most frequent names in town. I thought that it would be a typical name for our region. Please send me more information about our name and its history!

Hello There: I was also raised in Granite City and graduated from Granite City/North in 1979. My father retired from GC steel. I was raised in a good middle class family environment. I'm guilty of having bad judgement for a period of time though. Married for the wrong reasons (pregnant) to a man with no motivation. The best thing I ever did for myself was to move away from the once prosperous steelmill town. I had alot of good friends there, however, many of them were satisfied with the status quo, e.g. unemployed, drugs etc., specially my husband and some of his friends. It seems when you stay around that kind of environment you'll tend to go with the flow, if you know what I mean. Oh, I went with the flow for sometime, unfortunately. I came to my senses after awhile . I moved to MO in OCT 1983, started working for the State of MO, got a divorce etc... Anyway to make a long story short, I suceeded, but only because I left. I'm not a fortune teller but I don't think I would have made anything of myself if I stayed in GC. From reading your page you know GC was no place to live in the early 80's, unemployment was rampant and I was certainly too cool to go to school back then. (The story of a single mother: Work by day, college by night and a soldier one weekend a month. GS-4 to GS-12, E-3 to CW2, in 12 years, not too bad for a white girl from GC, I only wish I would have seen the light at the end of the tunnel a little bit sooner. (And don't take that as any kind of racist remark because it's not!) I have one sister left in Granite and as a matter of fact, I just visited her this past weekend. I've only been back there about 3 times in the last twelve years even though I was raised there. Most of my family lives in MO now, there's not much reason to go to Granite. The last time I visited, probably about five years ago, I was suprised to see hookers and people selling drugs on the corner down in W. GC. You know, on the way to the Sports Tap and Sammy's. It was by the ____ Lodge (Motel), or whatever. WGC was never the best part of town but it wasn't like that when I moved away. (Did have a lot of fun down there in my younger days though!) Things certainly do change, but there are some things that don't and that is good friends. I really don't miss GC but I do miss some of my high school friends dearly. You know, after you've been away for so long you wonder how much have they changed, do they still have the personality you remember, will they still want to talk to ya after you've been out of contact for so long. Well I went to see my best friend while I was there and I'm so glad I did. I still think of her as my best friend. I've yet to make friends like some of the friends I left in GC. I live in a very small community and the people really don't take to outsiders so it been kinda lonesome. And I just hit the Darn "Submit" Button just a little premature. Anyway, I didn't mean for this to be a book. I guess there is a couple of things I really want to say to everybody and anybody that may read this, especially from Granite City: Be All You Can Be. (I know it getting Old, but its a good philosophy). Don't let any one say you can't. Don't go with the flow, unless the flow is going to college and getting a college degree. Old Dogs Can Learn New Tricks! Don't think anyone is any better than you but, don't think you're any better than them. There is no such thing as being trapped, if you want out you can get out. Don't be afraid to move on to bigger and better things. If you need help, ask for it. Don't just complain about it, do something about it. If someone needs your help offer it to them. If I can do it, you can do it too. And one last thing. Don't just think about the friends you use to have and how you would like to see them again, Yada Yada Yada..... Get off your butt or take time out from your busy schedule to aleast make a telephone call and say, "Hey I've been thinking about you, hope everyting is fine. I've really missed your company.... What do you think about them Chicago Bulls!!......I've got a new baby!!! Remember when we use to.... How's your family? YOU JUST WON'T BELIEVE HOW GOOD CALLING ON AN OLD FRIEND WILL MAKE YOU FEEL!!!!! Life is to short just to wonder about what might have been if you only tried. Atleast try, then you won't have to wonder any more!!!!!!! Friends are Forever Trial and Tribulations, Thoughts, Advice and Word of Encouragement From A Girl Raised in Granite City laurie P.S. I've been happily married for the last 5 years, Have a 5 month old baby girl. I know a lot of people from Granite have done good, but I also know alot have not done so good. I was glad to read about your success. It does bother me to go back and see our city's declining population and in some places the decay that has taken place. I guess if I hadn't moved away I may not have notice it as much. It really kinda makes me sad.

We are cooperated with Fenix Journal, oriented in propagation and practical application of the Spiritual Values in Eastern Europe. Our main Edition is WORLDWIDE SPIRITUAL STREAMS! (what is one of the most prominent spiritually oriented edition in Central Europe). We are published non-commercial books about different spiritual traditions. For example - the miscellany / anthology ZEN (till today 8 vols.), BUDDHISMUS (meanwhile 5 vols.), ?AMANISMUS etc. (each volume contains 250-400 pages). At this moment we are prepared also LEXICON OF THE RELIGIOUS MOVEMENTS, ORGANIZATIONS AND SOCIETIES and ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE WORLD RELIGIONS, and so we need voluminous and serious informations about the NEW AGE Movement! For this reason we would be happy you could send / or arrange sending of any Dictionary and Reference Books, Head Books or other publications about your organization and other churches in your territory, too. If you?re published your books on the commercial base, arrange us permanent sending of your catalogues and SAMPLE / READING COPIES of your Publications - including the Preliminary Propositions on the Foreign Copy Rights! If the CZECH and/or SLOVAK rights are free.. Many thanks. MAYBE YOU COULD HELP US ALSO IN ANOTHER WAY: Because we?re prepared foundation of the CENTER OF ORIENTAL STUDIES AND SPIRITUAL TRADITIONS we would be glad you could send or mediate forwarding of the suitable publications - including the DAMAGED and USED BOOKS - for our Library, from time to time.. We would be happy you could mediate at least rescue of the old books (on spiritual teachings and social sciences preferably) what could finish in the dust and waste-paper because people do not use them, but for our people could be the Treasures! (For reason that Spiritual literature was prohibited here over 40 years of Communist Dictatorship, it is very difficult to complete all valuable publications now!) MAYBE YOU COULD ARRANGE US ANY OFFER TO SPIRITUAL PUBLIC TO DO NOT THROW OUT / SCRAP THEIR USED OR USELESS BOOKS and send its to us FOR OUR PREPARED CENTER OF ORIENTAL STUDIES AND SPIRITUAL TEACHINGS !? Having been born and raised in Granite City, Ill, every now and then I like to check out Granite on the web just to see what's happening there. Can't say that I would ever want to live there again, but I guess that one's roots go deep. I was in the GCHS class of 1967. Attended SIUE (what else) for a while. Ended up in Ohio. Phil, I just wrote you a long message and submitted it but it didn't appear in the guest book. I'll try again, but I have to level with you, I'm not as ambitious this time as I was last time. First and Foremost though, the Registry looks awesome!!!!! I can't believe how far its come, in such a short time. I remember when you thought of scrapping the whole idea. Persistence pays off. The automobile and apartments classifieds are great ideas. I also like the movie reviews and the personals. In short, I could spend alot of time just surfing your site. How did your meeting in Georgetown go??? Keep up the optimism because it pays off. I got a job, actually I had a couple of offers. The one I took is with a small civil litigation firm in downtown D.C. I really like the work and the people are great. How's your search going??? Would you please say Hi, to Judge Lewis for me and tell him thank you. By the way, last week I interviewed with a federal judge in the Virgin Islands, pretty funky huh!!!! Well, I guess I should be getting back to work. I would've emailed you with this message but there's something wrong with my initiation of the email and the computer won't let me do it. Since that's the case, Call me. Again, great job and thanks for everything. I told you I'd see your name in lights someday. Leza

I'm going to take my pants off now! I'm on a permanent sugar high! The reason x-files.com doesn't exist is the storage of sensitive government documents there.

Phil: The homepage looks great, the developments are almost too hard keep up with. Arnold's new flick "Jingle All the Way" is here! How is Ed?

Hey Phil, As you can see, I'm a Hagen too. I caught your link on the Hagen page (WWW.HAGEN.DE). I was looking for ancestral info for the exact same reasons. My family too came from Hagen and am looking for clues. I'd be real interested to start a dialog to see if we have any commonality that might be of interest! Drop me a line. Just stopped by your homepage to return the favor.. Pretty impressive :) I'd like to talk some more about politics whenever you have the time.. My other email address is greenka@emh-497ig.bolling.af.mil. I check the latter at least three times a day.. the geocities one is only checked when I have time.. Which, by the way, is happening less and less often!
